My Favourite 11 TV Adverts

I felt last year was a great year for adverts, and this year is going good as well so far with some surprising ones, such as the two and half minute Co-operative advert. So in celebration of these adverts I’ve made a list of my favourites in recent memory.

These were chosen out of a mix of me really liking them and the creative genius behind them.

Audi - Unboxing the Car (BBH London)

Another hit from BBH (the people behind the Cadbury’s Gorilla) although the tune bugs me after a while you still can’t ignore the simple brilliance of a drawn on man folding a box to the streamlined shape of the Audi Q5.

Sony - Walkman Project (Fallon London)

Fallon seemed to be on such a role last year with this ad and the Cake car ad. Both thinking outside the box and amazing that they managed to make them and convince the client to take the idea. You can see the making of on YouTube as well.

Fabia - Cake Car (Fallon London)

Ah the Fabia cake car advert, it all looks so delicious and such fun, it’s a shame the studio lights meant that it all had to be thrown out in the end. See the baking of for a behind the scenes look.

Skittles - 'Touch The Rainbow'

Bit of an odd one, I don’t think it ever aired and I can see why really, not really selling the product that well when a man died because of it. But I really like it nonetheless.

Barclaycard - Contactless Technology (BBH London)

Now who wouldn’t want to be able to go home on a giant waterslide? That would be an awesome job even if it was boring. I was half expecting this to have been made by Fallon but it turned out to be BBH, another ad agency I really like the work of.

British Gas - Home Planets (CHI&Partners)

I didn’t initially like this advert but when you realise how much work has gone into it you can’t help but appreciate it. Directed by Guilherme Marcondes and made by Hornet Inc.

Ford - Kuga (Ogilvy & Mather)

A combination of brilliant music and interesting idea make this advert a must see, shame though that the car wasn’t itself very fitting with the idea of starting with a blank canvas as far as I can see.

Cadbury's Creme Eggs - Here Today, Goo Tomorrow (Publicis)

Poor Creme Eggs, so bent on their own self destruction they’ll go to any length to destroy themselves. I’m hoping there’s going to be some new ones this year but so far there have only been repeats. The advert above was a special edition at the end of the Easter period.

O2 - Top Up Surprises (VCCP, London)

I like O2’s style of advertising, the cool blend of Sean Bean’s voice, a deep blue and bright yellow ducks makes for a great advert. I mean who couldn’t love something as quirky as that?

Toshiba - Timesculpture (Grey London)

When I first saw this ad I didn’t have a clue as to what was going on but I looked into it further and came across some impressive information. Two hundred cameras, two and a half million renamed frames and twenty thousand gigs of material.

Cadbury's Chocolate - The Gorilla (Fallon London)

Well I couldn’t exactly have such a list without including this advert at the end. I’d say they’re trying too hard now with their latest advert but this was the original and the best. Introduced viral videos to the masses.

Thanks

Thanks for reading, have you got any TV adverts you loved that you think I’ve missed out on?

Gorilla’ was NOT done by BBH, but by Fallon London.
