Twenty 10 started out as an experiment with creative commons sourced imagery. I wanted to explore the breadth of photography available under the various licenses that make up the creative commons. The idea was to pick five events that defined the year and see if there was sufficient high quality photography to illustrate them in a magazine format.
Well as it turned out there is a vast collection of photography available, I was amazed at the variety and the quality of the work out there. In fact once I expanded it to ten events there was only one event that I couldn't find pictures for; the Chilean Mining disaster which isn't too surprising really. As for choosing those ten events I referred to the Wikipedia page for 2010 to refresh my memory though I did have to go searching for a view more that I remember happening but weren't on their list, such as the red shirts protest in Thailand.
Once all images were gathered and events decided upon I set about designing the magazine. I wasn't particularly pleased with my first effort once I got it back from MagCloud so I re-designed it all. The second time I paid much more attention to the typography rather than just relying on the imagery to carry it along which turned out a lot better and is what you see here.
I used MagCloud for printing, Flickr to search out the photography in their creative commons section and DIN for all the typography except the page numbers which are set in Orator Std.
